Scarborough Council to discuss Yorkshire Coast BID investigation results at special meeting next month

A spokesman for the authority confirmed that a meeting will be held on March 19 to discuss the findings of the Association of Electoral Administrators’ (AEA) investigation into the council’s role in carrying out the ballot in 2018.

It comes after 60 people signed a petition on the council’s website calling on it to release the report without delay.

The petition states: “The report in full is currently withheld by the council. There is no valid reason why the executive summary and conclusion should not be released.

Scarborough Council will discuss the findings of the Yorkshire Coast BID investigation at a special meeting next month.

“Releasing these elements of the report will help relieve the stress and uncertainty for businesses across the borough.”

The council has also confirmed that following the revelation that more than 300 businesses in its area have not paid the mandatory levy that no date has been set for summonses to be issued.

A spokesman for the council said: “Irrespective of the investigation report, we have a duty to ensure all the BID levies are collected, but as yet, no date has been fixed for when the summonses will be issued.”
