MORE than 250 properties in Scarborough will be better protected from the devastating effects of flooding by new defence schemes to start construction in the next financial year, Defra and the Environment Agency have confirmed.
Scarborough Council has received £700,000 towards the North Bay Urgent Seawall Repair Programme.
It is estimated the funding will provide £25 benefits per every pound of investment.
MP Robert Goodwill welcomed the news, which was announced yesterday.
He said: “It is good news that the department, despite these difficult times, has found the money to carry out these important repairs in Scarborough.”
