SCARBOROUGH’S economy could be re-invigorated thanks to a new parliamentary group.
Scarborough Council and representatives from Local Government Yorkshire and Humber met MPs in Westminster to form a working party to boost local economies.
Cllr Derek Bastiman and officers from the council helped to establish an All Party Parliamentary Group which identified renewable energy, transport infrastructure and tourism and culture as their focus during the year.
Cllr Bastiman, Scarborough Council’s portfolio holder for planning and regeneration, said: “The meeting is a very positive step forward for our region.
“MPs have agreed to put aside politics and work towards the common aim of driving forward our economy and placing the region at the heart of the UK and Europe.
“This approach is something we have been working to instigate for some time and one that we support wholeheartedly.
“We have a unique offer in this region and by working together we can truly benefit our local economies.
“We will be working closely with our colleagues in Westminster to assist in setting the agenda and identifying actions to drive forward our economy.”
