The Red Arrows will be the headline attraction at this year's Armed Forces Day.
The Red Arrows, one of the world's premier aerobatic display teams will top an action packed programme on Saturday 24 June.
2013 was the last time the team’s distinctive hawk jets took an active part in Scarborough’s Armed Forces Day programme, attracting thousands of enthusiasts and spectators. This year they will be back on the Yorkshire coast to wow the crowds once more with their speed, agility and precision.
Cllr Tom Fox, Chairman of Armed Forces Day Steering Group said: “This is a fantastic coup for Scarborough. We are absolutely thrilled to have secured the Red Arrows for this year’s Armed Forces Day.
“The Red Arrows Team will be delivering an amazing 20 minute air display over the South Bay. In addition to this we are also delighted to be once again welcoming a Spitfire display from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The RAF Falcon’s Parachute Display Team (The UK’s Premier Military Parachute Display Team) will also for the first time be dropping in onto the beach on the South Bay.”
Janet Deacon, Area Director for Welcome to Yorkshire andTourism Manager for Scarborough Borough Council said: “2017 is already proving to be another fantastic year for the programming of events and festivals along the Yorkshire Coast. Securing the Red Arrows to support Armed Forces day is fantastic news and if 2013 is anything to go by will result in large volumes of Armed Forces friends, families and visitors coming to enjoy the programme of activities throughout the day.”
