Rock armour investigation

WORK is set to begin within the next few weeks on ground investigations, into the possibility of placing rock armour around Scarborough Spa, after councillors voted to accept £290,000 in grant funding from the Environment Agency.

Members of Scarborough Council’s Cabinet approved the move but rejected an option to commit an extra £50,000 to explore the possibility of a stepped concrete slope.

A council spokesman said: “The £50,000 was the additional amount required to twin track both the concrete stepped revetment and rock revetment options to a conclusion. However, as Cabinet selected the rock armour solution as a preferred option, it negated the need to take a twin track approach. No further work will be undertaken into the concrete stepped revetment option.”
