FORMER Calendar presenter Geoff Druett has spoken of his affection for the Yorkshire coast.
He said: “Three years ago my wife and I brought a one-bedroom bolt hole in Filey, which is sometimes regarded as trapped in a 1950s’ timewarp. I don’t agree. It always seems to me a place which is comfortable in its identity and feels no need to imitate anywhere else.
“In an ideal Filey weekend we might take the bus to Scarborough and walk back along the cliffs, or head off on the train in the other direction to Bempton and take the cliff top walk back through the stunning – and noisy – RSPB bird sanctuary.
“In the summer we take our bikes and head off either through the Wolds or up the track of the old Scarborough to Whitby railway line.”
