Pupils steal the show at competition

A team of Scarborough school children shone on stage for the town at the Harrogate Competitive Festival for Speech and Drama.

Despite tough competition from some UK stage schools, St Augustine’s solo students managed to achieve a number of awards.

Year 7 students Molly Swales and Winifred Bushell both received a commendation for Verse Speaking, as did Chloe Moran in Year 9, while year 11 students Alex Mills and Matthew Robert, got a merit for Solo Acting.

In addition year 7 drama groups entered the competition with a performance of ‘Little Red Cap’ from Grimm Tales which was described by the adjudicator as “most entertaining” and “imaginatively staged” and received an exceptional performance honours certificate.

Similarly, the year 11 drama group entered a devised piece of drama which was awarded a distinction by the judges.
