FUND-RAISERS exceeded their expectations when they decided to raise cash for a heart charity.
Members, visitors and staff at Scarborough Bowls Centre were delighted that, after just a few days into a week-long heart defibrillator appeal, they passed their target of £500.
Participants had to wear something red for the appeal to help the East Coast Start a Heart Appeal – which is part of the British Heart Foundation – and their efforts were well supported.
Colin Rennard, the centre manager, said, “I’m delighted with the generosity and commitment shown by the staff, members and visitors to the centre over the last few days.
“This is without doubt a very worthwhile cause and we are pleased that we have been able to help in this way.”
There are more than 17 cardiac arrests every day in the Yorkshire region and the appeal aims to raise more than £54,000 which would put 200 defibrillators in busy areas around the east coast.
All the staff at the Bowls Centre are trained in the use of this life-saving piece of equipment and expect to take delivery of one of them in the near future.
