LAST of the Summer Wine star Ken Kitson will host a race night tonight in aid of Martin House children’s hospice at Beiderbecke’s from 7.30pm.

The actor has teamed up with businesswoman and events manager of the hotel in The Crescent, Justine Craven, to raise funds for the charity.

There will be eight races, the first at 7.45pm.

In addition, Ken plans to hold a poetry reading supper at Beiderbecke’s on Friday April 27 at 7.30pm.

There will be a Yorkshire produce menu to accompany the recital which will feature verse from his book Moods, Moments and Memories.

He has also agreed to support a fundraiser in aid of four-year-old Charlie Stirling, of Crossgates, who has cerebral palsy.

Ken will be teaming up with his Summer Wine co-star Louis Emerick to present An Arresting Night – an improvised show featuring the characters from the long-running sitcom, coppers Cooper and Walsh.

The duo will be signing photographs for a £1 donation as well as doing the show.

That event is also at Beiderbecke’s on Sunday May 27 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the hotel and from Aladdin’s Cave, in Huntriss Row.
