Raising funds to climb summit of Mt Kilimanjaro

Matthew Beck, formerly of Seamer Road, will be tackling Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of an international charity.

He is now looking to raise close to £3,000 so he can take on the impressive challenge later this year.

Matthew, 20, who is studying at the University of Hertfordshire, is hoping to reach the summit of the 5,895 metre high mountain in aid of Childreach International – a charity which focuses on maximising children’s potentials by improving their access to healthcare, education and empowering children by understanding their rights in Tanzania, India, Brazil, India, Morocco and Nepal.

Matthew said: “When the Kilimanjaro climb was advertised I jumped at the idea, this wasn’t only because I like to set myself a challenge each year but because I will be impacting on other people’s lives.

“When I was 15-year-old I started a work experience job at Scarborough and district Mencap. Ever since I have worked for the company on a part time contract during my holidays and it is extremely rewarding.

“In order to raise money for the Childreach charity, I will be fundraising throughout this year in various ways: bake sales, car boot sales, pub collections, bag packing and much more.

“I would willing to wear a T-shirt or flag emblazoned with a Scarborough company’s logo during the summit photo for a donation.”
