Record number of Big Thank You nominations
Thank you for the record level of nominations which flooded in for the borough's Big Thank You awards '“ the judging has now taken place at the Town Hall.
Over the past few months nominations for the borough’s best volunteers, good deeds champions and fundraising heroes have been submitted in a record amount.
The community awards are sponsored by Scarboroug-based McCain Foods and run by The Scarborough News in partnership with the borough mayor.
More than 70 men, women, children and groups have be thanked for their hard work, kindness and determination in an event which will celebrate the borough’s unsung heroes.
The judging panel gathered at the Town Hall on Tuesday to consider the nominations for each of the 10 categories.
The panel also decided on who would take home the three special awards, including the Mayor’s Award, The Scarborough News Award and the Max Payne Memorial Award.
The competition was tough and each category was filled with plenty of worthy winners.
Mayor of the borough of Scarborough, Cllr Tom Fox said: “The nominations for the Borough’s Big Thank You are now in and judging for the 10 categories of nomination and three special awards have been agreed.
“All entries have been amazing and highlighting how people are so generous of both their time and commitment to others featuring so strongly. The quality of nomination meant there have been no easy decisions.
“But get involved and join with us on the night and witness some remarkable people and groups recognised across the Borough for their fantastic contributions to others.”
The toughest category this year is the Good Deeds Award with 15 worthy nominees in the running to take home the award on the night.
Invites to the award ceremony were posted earlier this week to everyone nominated.
The awards evening will be held on Tuesday April 19 at 6pm at the Scarborough Spa Complex.
Everyone who was nominated will receive a certificate on the night in recognition of all the special work that they have done in the community and some special awards will also be presented.
Letters will be sent to nominees and their nominators separately. Due to the growing popularity of the awards nominees can bring one guest and their nominator. Each nominee can bring up to two more guests with a charge of £6 to cover catering costs.
Parking at the Spa is limited with only a small number of disabled spaces. It is strongly recommended that those attending use the car park at Aquarium Top.
