Record number of runners turn out for McCain 10k run
I write to thank everyone involved in making Sunday's McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k such a fantastic success.
It was fitting that in this, the 10th anniversary run, the sun shone and we had a record 2,500 runners taking part. In particular, I want to congratulate all the amazing runners who tackled this beautiful but demanding course and made it an exciting race and to thank all the spectators who lined the route to cheer them on. I especially want to thank all the unsung heroes from Scarborough Athletic Club who volunteered their time, behind the scenes, to organise the 10k and fun runs and to be marshals on the day.
And last, but by no means least, we thank our sponsors, including main sponsor McCain and also Ringway Traffic Management, Scarborough Borough Council, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Andy Hire Sales and Service Ltd, Baron’s and not forgetting our media partners, The Scarborough News and Yorkshire Coast Radio.
The 10k has become a wonderful community occasion, bringing people together to enjoy competing or the spectacle of the runners on the course. We are biased of course, but think the Yorkshire Coast 10k – not least because of its fantastic coastal backdrop – must be the best in the country.
We are honoured to be nominated for this year’s Running Awards and if you would like to help us towards winning gold please visit www.runningawards.com and vote for us in the 10k Yorkshire section. Thanks.
