Scarborough boxer George Rhodes Jr is set to donate the purse he makes from his fight in July to charity.
Rhodes will give all the money he earns from his fight in York on Saturday July 8 to Ourco Scarborough, the charity of choice of his late friend Alex Baron’s family.
Baron was tragically killed in a car crash in 2014 and his family have been fundraising for the charity since.
“I was mates with Alex a long time, we played junior football together at Rowing Club and Westover and then we ran together,” said Rhodes.
“I know the family supports Ourco, and I think his dad is the chairman too, so it’ll be nice to be able to contribute.
“I’m not 100% sure what my purse will be yet, but I hope the tickets will go well with it being back in York.
“I have had a lot of people messaging me saying they can’t make the fight but would still like to donate.”
