The emergency closure was put in place on Mill Lane due to an "unstable building adjacent to the highway".

Barrie Mason, Assistant Director of Business and Environmental Services said: “There are currently problems with the bell tower on Jubilee Hall, Mill Lane, Cayton and the road has been closed while its structural integrity is assessed and made safe.

“Mill Lane will remain closed until it is confirmed the structure is secure and poses no risk.

Drivers are reminded that Limekiln Lane is one way and users of Mill Lane must not drive through the ‘No Entry’ signs.”

Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
