Robbery suspect in court over £14,000 jewellery theft

A man has appeared in court in connection with a robbery at Bond Jewellers in Huntriss Row, Scarborough.

Leon Gareth Littlechild, 39, of Rowan Close, appeared at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court in custody.

He faced two charges relating to the robbery, which took place at around 3.50pm on Saturday afternoon.

It is alleged that the defendant robbed the store of three Rolex watches and a Diafuego watch to the value to £14,000.

He also faced an allegation of possessing an offensive weapon, namely a crowbar, in a public place.

Following the incident on Saturday, two men were apprehended by police and taken into custody.

Littlchild was charged and another man, aged 42, was questioned and released without further action.

The suspect was tracked though town by police with the help of CCTV cameras.

He was arrested just 16 minutes after the initial 999 call was received. Property has been recovered by the police, including a number of watches.

None of the staff were physically injured during the robbery, but police said they were very shaken up by the incident.

The case was sent to be dealt with at York Crown Court due to the seriousness of its nature. Littlechild will appear at crown court on Monday March 4.
