A STUDENT production of the Who rock opera Tommy opens at Yorkshire Coast College’s Westwood campus tonight.
Written by Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff, it is being put together by the college’s Underground music department.
“The show features all our singing students on vocals and five bands playing on two complete sets of equipment,” says lecturer John Pattison.
“The stage will be decorated by a specially formed technical team made up of music department students”, JP adds.
“All the songs from the show will be there - Pinball Wizard, I’m Free, The Acid Queen and Amazing Journey - alongside characters made famous by the original rock opera such as Cousin Kevin, Uncle Ernie and Uncle Frank the Greencoat from Bernie’s Holiday Camp.
“It has been fantastic working with so many talented local musicians on such a seminal rock opera. The students have really done the Who proud”.
Tommy can be seen tonight, tomorrow and Friday, at 7.30pm.
