A BENEFIT for Norma Waterson, one of the country’s leading folk singers, is to be held in Halifax on 18 May. Seventy-year-old Norma, who lives in Fylingthorpe, has been very sick and still has a long way to go on the road to recovery. Her husband Martin Carthy has been by her side in hospital for several months, so unable to work. The Blacksmith’s Arms in Cayton is celebrating a year as a freehold pub by having two nights of celebrations with live music from Paul Tilley on Friday and karaoke on Saturday. The pub’s weekly karaoke session is usually on a Friday and is moving forward a day for this week only, say publicans Mike and Andrea Brent.
