Rotary backing for Boys’ Brigade trip

MEMBERS of Scarborough Boys’ Brigade enjoyed a week-long visit to London.

The 11 to 18 year olds from 5th Scarborough Company were helped along the way by a donation of £500 from the Scarborough Rotary Club.

Twelve youngsters all attend Boys’ Brigade at Queen Street Methodist Central Hall every week.

During the trip they visited HMS Belfast, the London Eye and Wembley Stadium.

They also enjoyed a trip to a wildlife park and a visit to Cadbury World in Birmingham.

The trip was planned over a year ago, but when company captain, Mike Colbeck, spoke to the Rotarians in March this year about the organisation, they were so impressed with the work being done they said they wished to help in some way.

Mr Colbeck said: “Whilst the trip would have gone ahead without the money, we would have certainly made a loss and would not have been able to do half of the things that we managed to squeeze into the week.

“All those who attended are very grateful to the Rotary Club for their donation and for giving opportunities to these young people that they may never have had without their generosity.”
