Nearly 50 years of bravery
The group was founded in 1965 as the Scarborough and District Search and Rescue Team.
In 2005, the team changed its name to Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team to better reflect their geographical area of operations and the work they do.
As a registered charity, the team receives no public funding and raises money through fundraising, grant applications and sponsorship.
The group is manned entirely by trained volunteers including doctors, paramedics, nurses and expert climbers and hillwalkers, none of whom receive payment or expenses. The team also assist the police and ambulance service with a wide variety of incidents.
