Runners urged to get on their marks for 10k
Entries are now open for the eighth annual McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k and Family Fun Runs, and organisers are expecting another record turnout.
The event, which is organised by Scarborough Athletic Club and McCain, will be held on Sunday October 30.
This year, due to the popularity of previous races, the organisers have decided to increase the number of places open to runners.
Kicking off at the Scarborough Spa Complex, the 10k course will follow Scarborough’s coastline to the Sea Life Centre and back.
The main race is followed by a 2.5k and 1.5k Family Fun Run, both of which are perfect for children and anyone wanting to run the shore on a smaller scale.
Race director Chris Clayton said: “The event has grown every year since it started in 2009.
“We’re overwhelmed at how many participants come from the Yorkshire Coast and beyond to take part.
“This year, we’ve extended our race entries to 2,000 for the 10k and we’re encouraging people to sign up quickly to avoid disappointment.”
As a responsible family-owned food manufacturer, McCain supports the 10k and Family Fun Runs as part of its commitment to encouraging healthy, active lifestyles in the community.
Acting corporate communications manager at McCain, Jennifer Jaconelli, said: “The McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k and Family Fun Runs have become a favourite for runners of all ages and abilities.
“It’s fantastic to see so many people enjoying the route along our scenic coastline, whether they’re trying to get a personal best, raise money for charity or reach the finish line of their very first 10k.”
This year, there will also be a quality medal and a high quality technical bright coloured t-shirt for all the runners taking part.
Entry fees have also been frozen at £17 for non-affiliated runners and £15 for club runners.
In 2015 Yorkshire Coast Homes was the official charity.
