Scarborough Lions are preparing to spread some festive cheer with their annual fundraising sleigh collections.

Each year Scarborough Lions arrange for Father Christmas to visit residents and shoppers across the town’s villages while collectors and carollers collect money for local causes.

The sleigh is due to make its first appearance on Monday when Santa rides around Burniston and Cloughton.

All village visits will take place between 6pm and 8 subject to weather conditions.

This year’s schedule is as follows: Monday, December 10, Burniston and Cloughton; Tuesday, December 11, Osgodby; Wednesday, December 12, Scalby; Tuesday, December 18, Seamer and Irton; and Wednesday, December 19, Crossgates and the Mere Valley.

Santa and his sleigh will also visit the following supermarkets between 9am and 6pm on the days listed below: Thursday, December 13 Proudfoot in Eastfield; Friday, December 14, Proudfoot in Seamer; Saturday, December 15, Proudfoot in Newby; Thursday, December 20, Sainsbury’s; Friday, December 21, Morrisons; Saturday, December 22, Sainsbury’s; Sunday, December 23, Morrisons.

While at the supermarkets the famous red sleigh will give local children the chance to meet Santa, and share their Christmas wish lists, while parents are invited to make donations for good causes, the majority of which are Scarborough based charities. Each year the Lions raise hundreds of pounds through the Sleigh collections.
