West Pier boss Andy Spivey is hoping local pride comes to the fore when his Scarborough Saturday League rep side face their annual battle against Boro on Saturday.
Spivey may be without a number of players who he would usually have selected for the game at Silver Royd, but he still feels that the local league lads will be competitive.
Champions Pier boast six players in the squad, while former Boro men Joel Ramm, Lloyd Henderson and Drew McCoubrey will also be in the side.
Spivey said: “We still have a few lads waiting to confirm their availability for the game.
“There are a few more players I would have liked to have had there, but because of holidays and injuries they can’t play.
“We have a good mix and I have brought a few in from Pier because we did well last season.
“We are playing a higher league team without any training, which isn’t ideal, but I’m confident the lads will give a good account of themselves.
“A few local league teams have done a bit in pre-season, but we are coming up against a team of players who should be fitter and have better technical ability.
“There are no mugs in our 16 though, I just hope we show what we can do and give them a game.”
Boro manager Steve Kittrick added: “We are looking forward to getting started and getting in a routine.
“We’re not far away from being a brand new team, but pre-season is going well for us and the lads are all raring to go.
“We’ll be having a team bonding night out on Thursday and then we’ll be ready to go at the weekend.”
The main game kicks off at 3pm after a match between a Saturday League over-35s team and an opposition yet to be confirmed.
Entry on the day will be £5 for adults, with concessions being charged at £2.50.
The action kicks off with a game at 12noon between a Scarborough League over-35s team and Malt Shovel (Selby).
Boro will return to action on Wednesday night when they entertain East Riding Carnegie at Silver Royd.
