A Scarborough man has been jailed after being found guilty of a number of sexual offences against young girls.

Graham John Stubbings, aged 29, of Hatterboard Drive, was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment at Teesside Crown Court today (Friday May 23).

He was found guilty by a jury during a five-day trial of eight counts of sexual activity with children between 2004 and 2012.

Stubbings targeted vulnerable young girls and started sexual relationships with them. His two victims were aged just 12 and 13 when he met them.

Detective Constable Jonathan Sygrove, of Scarborough CID, said: “I am pleased that Graham Stubbings has received a sentence which reflects the gravity of his offending.

“His behaviour in targeting vulnerable young girls was disgusting and I hope he uses his time in prison to reflect on the distress he has caused his victims.

“The two victims in this case were extremely brave in coming forward and reporting Stubbings to the police before attending court.

“If they hadn’t had the courage to face what happened to them Stubbings would still be in a position to target other young girls.

“I would like to thank them for their bravery and I hope that their actions will give other victims of sexual offences the confidence to come forward.”
