Scarborough residents urged to give blood

THE NHS is asking for more blood donors in Scarborough to come forward and help keep blood stocks healthy as the service continues to get back on track after the recent bad weather.

The next sessions in the town will take place at Westborough Methodist Church from 2pm to 4pm and from 5pm to 7.15pm on Tuesday February 15.

There will also be the chance to give blood at the Milton Rooms in Malton on Monday February 7, and at Ryedale Bowls Club, Norton, on Monday February 21, also from 2pm to 4pm and from 5pm to 7.15pm.

Many sessions where cancelled following the snow and ice over the festive period, which caused a drop in collections.

Due to the generosity of donors there was enough blood to meet hospital demands, but NHS Blood and Transplant spokesman Darren Bowen said: ”Blood stocks were affected over December and January and we want to get levels back to normal as quickly as possible. We thank all donors for their continuing generosity and appeal to those who have ever taught about becoming a donor – there’s no better time than now.”

If you would like to become a donor and are aged between 17 and 65, generally in good health and weigh more than 7st 12lbs, call 0300 1232323 now to register or visit
