Scarborough show their mettle at Settle
Scarborough RUFC's chances of sealing a play-off spot in Yorkshire One were boosted as they romped to a 50-22 win at North Ribblesdale and rivals Heath and Beverley failed to win.
Simon Smith's side led early on after Aaron Wilson's touchdown, which was converted by Tom Ratcliffe.
Ribb hit back with an uncoverted try of their own to make it 7-5, but back came the visitors, Jonty Holloway touching down in the corner for 12-5.
The hosts landed a penalty to narrow their deficit at 12-8, but Harry Domett then fed Wilson to gallop clear for his second try to hand Scarborough a 19-8 advantage.
Ribb touched down and converted to give themselves hope of a second-half comeback at 19-15.
Scarborough started the second half in scintillating fashion, Holloway breaking clear and feeding Ben Martin to crash over for a 24-15 lead and a bonus point to boot.
Ribb touched down again to close the gap to just two points at 24-22, but Scarborough weren't to be denied and they quickly raced up the other end and bagged a try of their own, Sam Dawson touching down for 31-22.
Dawson then notched his second try for a 36-22 lead before skipper Matty Jones and Aaron Wilson wrapped up proceedings and a 50-22 win for the promotion-chasers.
Scarborough's bid was boosted further by a 29-19 defeat for Beverley at Wheatley Hills and a late comeback by league leaders York denying rivals Heath in a 25-25 draw.
Smith's side wrap up their league campaign at Keighley next weekend.
