Scarborough solicitor returns to roots to support girl, 6, with cancer
A legal eagle is returning to her roots as a hairdresser to raise money for a little girl with cancer.
Scarborough solicitor in training Natalie Foster, 33, is holding a half-price haircut day tomorrow to raise money for six-year-old Eve Gascoigne. Natalie, of St John's Road, was heartbroken to hear brave Eve, from Bridlington, had an ultra-rare form of cancer.
A friend of Eve's mum Phillipa, Natalie said: "Me and Eve's mum used to work together at Barclay's Bank and we've known each other for about 10 years.
"Tomorrow, I'm holding a half-price salon to raise money for Eve."
Natalie, who trained as a hairdresser in 2000 and 2002, is resurrecting her hair-chopping skills as a quick way to support Eve and her parents.
They are raising funds to Eve can go to America where she will have proton beam therapy — but the NHS might not fund it.
The doted parents are trying to raise the £150,000 for Eve's treatment themselves in case the NHS refuse funding.Tomorrow (Thursday February 23), Natalie will set up shop at Blue Ruby hairdressers on Dean Road to raise as much as possible for Eve.
She added: "Lisa Nock, who owns Blue Ruby, was kind enough to offer me space in the salon.
"I've got near enough a full day of bookings. I'm standing to make a little bit of money for Eve and I would be surprised if I made less than £100!"
Last week, our sister title The Bridlington Free Press launched its Believe In Eve campaign to support Eve and her family.
Total donations on Eve's JustGiving page now stand at more the £15,000 — but they still have a long way to go before reaching their target.
Natalie, who is training to become a solicitor at North Yorkshire Law, said she is prepared to stay late to get as many clients in as possible.
"I've already got lots of bookings but from 3.30 onward I'm available.
"If I have to stay late I will — the more money I can get the better."
Natalie is also acceting general donations at Blue Ruby tomorrow for anyone who wants to drop by.
