We head into the last couple of games of the season in a strong position, still well in the hunt for promotion.
I have to say I’m happy to be in our position rather than our rivals Heath’s.
In most cases, I would say I’d rather have our destiny in our own hands, but looking at Heath’s fixtures, I am happy to be where we are now heading into the last few weeks of the season.
Heath have a trip to York this weekend and then have to play the runaway league leaders again as well as a game against Middlesbrough, who are also challenging up near the top.
I feel Heath will have to be exceptional across all three of their final games to pick up the points to finish second.
Nothing is a given at this stage of the season though and we have to maintain our levels from the weekend’s win at home to Moortown when we travel to North Ribblesdale this Saturday and then to Keighley for the last game of the season.
I thought we were exceptional on Saturday against a strong Moortown side.
We were 28-0 up after 20 minutes and we took our foot off the gas somewhat and the scoreline flattered them in the end.
I was slightly disappointed with two of their tries, but on the whole the guys did their jobs well and we should have won by a bigger margin really.
It is always hard to maintain those performance and energy levels over an 80-minute period though, especially when you pretty much put the game to bed so early on.
Our selection meeting will be interesting for this week’s game.
We have Phil Watson and MattyYoung back in contention for selection and as it stands, a full quota of players to pick from, which at this stage of the season is absolutely fantastic as a coach.
Everyone knows how hard it is to go to North Ribb’ and get a win.
There’s a reason they are so much stronger at home than they are away and it’s always a difficult encounter, especially with the long journey over there.
After the North Ribb’ game, we travel for another tough clash at Keighley.
Keighley is never an easy place to go and we’ll need to be at our best again to get the win.
