Detectives in Scarborough are appealing for information after a woman was robbed in the town by a man who smelled bad.

It occurred between 7am and 7.15am on Friday 27 June 2014, on Deepdale Avenue, near the sports centre.

The victim, a 37-year-old woman, was using a short cut, when a man approached her from behind before pushing her over and stealing her handbag. After the incident the suspect headed towards Filey Road.

The only description of the man is that he smelled unwashed.

The victim was not injured as a result of this robbery.

Detective Constable Steve Monty, of Scarborough CID, said: “Thankfully the victim was not hurt as a result of this robbery. However, the experience has naturally left her feeling shaken.

“If you have any information which could help to identify the man responsible, I urge you to contact the police straight away.”

Anyone who can help detectives with this enquiry should contact Scarborough CID on 101, select option 2 and ask for Steve Monty. Alternatively, information can be emailed to stephen.monty@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
