Scarborough RUFC coach Simon Smith admits his side will head into the unknown when they travel for their promotion play-off next Saturday, May 5.

The men from Silver Royd romped past Keighley on Saturday and rivals Heath lost to Middlesbrough, sealing the runner-up berth in Yorkshire One for Scarborough.

They’ll now travel to the second-placed side in Durham Northumberland One, likely to be either Consett or Durham City, to battle it out for a place in North One East.

Smith, who has enjoyed a stunning first season as coach at Silver Royd, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have grabbed second spot.

“Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, the players can be proud of their efforts, it’s been a magnificent year.

“It is up to us now to make sure we put the icing on the cake now though and make sure we win promotion.

“There are a lot of the older lads in the dressing room who have been waiting for a long time for this opportunity, so we have to go and take it with both hands and put in another strong performance.”

Scarborough are putting a number of coaches on for any fans who’d like to attend next Saturday’s huge promotion clash.

Details will follow via @ScarboroughRUFC on Twitter next week once the opponents have been confirmed.
