Neil Fitzpatrick, from Scarborough, has presented Cancer Research UK with a cheque for £26,248 following sales of his song Apart inspired by his friend’s sister battle with bowel cancer, which she sadly lost at the age of 40.
Three years later his mother-in-law, Penny, lost her battle with breast cancer and then, following a year-long battle with lung cancer Mr Fitzpatrick’s father passed away.
Mr Fitzpatrick, of East Ayton, who runs Fitzpatrick Design in Scarborough, decided to release the song 18 months ago and donate the proceeds to Cancer Research UK.
Apart is available to buy at the website www.apartsong.co.uk.
Rachel Speight-McGregor, fundraising manager for Cancer Research UK said: “Neil’s experience with this dreadful illness is sadly not unique, but his drive and determination to make a difference in the fight against cancer is nothing short of inspirational. In just 18 months Neil has fronted an impressive campaign to raise £25,000 with his amazing song Apart, and, as you can see, has smashed the target.”
