Star memorabilia set to go under hammer

A number of limited edition items of pop memorabilia are set to create a real buzz at an auction.

Ryedale Auctioneers are hosting their first-ever pop memorabilia and pop art sale which will feature some very original and iconic items from artists including John Lennon, Andy Warhol and Jimi Hendrix.

The most expensive lot, valued between £10,000-£20,000, is a black leather motorcycle jacket attributed to John Lennon with a selection of various original and photocopied photographs including when John performed with American artist Bleu.

Angus Ashworth, owner of Ryedale Auctioneers, said: “We have had plenty of interest in the mixture of items that range in terms of price to suit a bigger audience. It is sometimes difficult to put a price on some one-off fantastic items but we are very much looking forward to seeing how they sell.”

Another lot is a pair of John Lennon attributed sunglasses with later restoration with associated damage pieces and receipt for repairs, with copy of associated letter of sale and provenance from John Lennon’s uncle Charlie Lennon, valued at £3,000-£3,500.

A limited edition of 20 of Keith Richards playing guitar on stage, life-size lithograph by artist Sebastian Kruger is estimated to fetch between £4,000-£6,000. The Beatles are featured in a number of lots including a Parlophone ‘With The Beatles’ mono and a selection of LP records alongside posters of The Rolling Stones and the Sex Pistols.

The sale will take place at the Kirkbymoorside sale room on Friday, February 17.

In 1966, Hendrix played on the same bill in Hull as Scarborough band The Mandrakes, which included Robert Palmer, former Scarborough Evening News pre-press employee.
