A Star Trek actor will come to Sci-Fi Scarborough next year to take part in the popular event.

Garrett Wang is better known as Ensign Harry Kim in the US TV series Star Trek: Voyager and will be attending the event in April 2016.

The seven year run of the series was a huge hit between 1995 and 2001.

Steve Dickinson, co-organiser of Sci-Fi Scarborough, said: “To say we are pleased is a major understatement.

“Star Trek in all its incarnations is such a cultural touchstone for all fans of science fiction and the fact we have managed to get such a major actor from one of them is just really, really great news.

“The bar continues to be raised and we could not be happier for the event, the town and the convention attendees.”

In other Star Trek news, a new TV series has been announced for 2017.

A brand new series of the iconic sci-fi creation will return to TV screens for the first time since ‘Enterprise’ finished in 2005.

Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote and produced both recent movie instalments of the much-loved franchise, will act as executive producer.

According to the show’s announcement: “The brand-new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.”

Next year marks 50 years since the original run of the TV series.

Sci-Fi Scarborough 2016 is on Saturday and Sunday April 9 and 10 next year and tickets are available from the Spa Box Office or for more details:
