Saint Catherine’s has launched its Starlight Walk with support from a local business – and help from some of Britain’s biggest stars.

This year’s night-time walk on September 12, sponsored by Dale Power Solutions, has a “Hall of Fame” theme so people will have the option of coming dressed as their favourite star.

Famous people including Sir Tom Jones, George Ezra, Sir Alan Ayckbourn and Downton’s Joanne Froggatt have already sent the hospice autographed photographs to lend their support – and more famous names will be revealed in the build-up to the event.

Hospice fundraiser Penny Campbell said that they hoped hundreds of people would turn out to support the event in the year the hospice celebrates 30 years of care.

She said they were particularly delighted to have sponsorship from Dale Power Solutions which also has a big anniversary this year – its 80th in business.

Leonard Dale, once head of the company, was a key figure in the foundation of Saint Catherine’s.

“This local company are still so supportive of Saint Catherine’s and we are privileged to have their help in a year when we both have so much to celebrate,” Penny said.

Chief executive of Dale Power Solutions, Tim Wilkins, said “Saint Catherine’s have provided invaluable support to our local community and I am proud to be involved in what will be a fantastic family event.”

The Starlight Walk will again start at 10pm this year and cover a 6.5-mile circular route from the hospice and around both Scarborough’s bays.

New to the event this year is the introduction of free entry for accompanied children up to the age of 16.

“Increasing numbers of families are joining us and we want to make this a really family-friendly event,” said Penny.

“We’d love to see some Spidermen, Elsas and Captain Americas joining us on the walk. We want people to use their imagination and come dressed as stars of stage, screen, sport, music and history.

“We’re sure this walk is going to be one of the highlights of our 30 years celebration. It’s going to be a fun night you won’t want to miss.”

Entry is £12.50, or £10 for early birds who register before 30th June, and includes a free T shirt. If children would like a T shirt, there is a charge of £3.
