Stars set to come out for awards night

THE UNSUNG heroes of the Scarborough borough are set to be crowned tonight in a glamourous awards ceremony.

The Borough’s Big Thank You Awards take place at the Spa, with community stalwarts and great achievers finally receiving the recognition their work has so long deserved.

A partnership between the Evening News and Scarborough Council, the awards attracted more than 80 nominations in eight categories with stars of the borough put forward for a whole host of heroic and caring deeds.

Categories brought people young and old together, with Courage over Adversity category Performing Arts and Care and Support in the Community just three sections which proved extremely popular.

The awards also feature a Good Neighbour category, with Heritage and the Environment, Artistic and Cultural Development, Charitable Fundraising and Young Achiever making up the rest of the categories.

Mayor of the borough of Scarborough, Cllr Hazel Lynskey, said she was delighted the time had arisen to turn the spotlight on the people who deserved praise.

She said: “The awards give us an opportunity reward individuals and groups.

“There are so many people in the borough who give their time and energy to help others in a voluntary capacity - they are our unsung heroes.”

The ceremony starts at 6pm.
