Students are praised for their hard work

Students at The Academy Hair and Beauty Training College in Scarborough have celebrated their achievements at an annual presentation evening.

The college, in Roscoe Street, works with more than 100 students and apprentices in the Scarborough area.

More than 200 people attended the presentation evening, where students collected their City and Guilds certificates.

Joel Bailey, a barbering student from Scarborough, was delighted to win Scarborough Academy Student of The Year.

Jessica Pacey won the Level Three Beauty Therapy Attainment Award and has now completed a fast-track course at Bath Academy of Media Make Up.

The Level Three Beauty Endeavor award goes to Rosie Hesp. Jemma Uttley of Scarborough won the Attainment Award for Hairdressing and is now progressing to study Level Three.

The Hairdressing Endeavor Award goes to Rebecca Franks who is currently on a work placement at Sugar Hair.

Level Two Beauty awards go to Charlotte Radford and Shannon Ellis. Shannon now works at Spangle Beauty Salon at Shona’s in Scarborough and Charlotte is studying Level Three.

The Barbering Endeavor Award goes to May Chakhamrueang.

Lindsay Burr MBE, owner of The Academy, said: “For our students hair and beauty is their passion and their chosen career.

“They have embraced the opportunity to gain additional qualifications in English and maths and now have apprenticeships in local salons or will be continuing their studies.

“I would like to thank all of our partners including Scarborough Sixth Form, Whitby Community College and North Yorkshire County Council for their support. I am extremely proud of everyone at Academy and their achievements including all the staff who are a credit to the industry.”
