Youngsters from Scarborough Dance Centre have returned from the finals of the British Arts Awards with their trophies.

The owner of the dance school, Sally Beard, said: “The children loved it.

“It was the first time entering for some of them and they found it really exciting.”

The dance centre entered routines which progressed through the heats, the semi-finals in March and on to the finals which took place in London over the weekend of May 10.

Of the five routines entered, three came in first place with the other two coming in second in their respective categories.

The performances included duets of a song from the musical Annie and Run DMC’s Express Yourself as well as group performances of Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Elvis Presley’s Devil in Disguise, with a solo rendition of Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz.
