Sumpton's delight as Boro Under-12s wrap up title with two victories

Scarborough travelled to Costello Stingrays on Sunday and came away 2-0 winners in tricky conditions.

On a pitch typical of the end of the season, their usual flowing football was stifled a little, but they controlled the game well and goals from Kobi Wilson and Toby Jones during the first half saw the visitors run out winners, and ensure promotion in their first season.

Three points on Sunday meant a draw would secure the title on Tuesday evening against South Cave Bears.

A blustery wind blew throughout the game, and with Scarborough kicking into the wind first half it took a while to get into their stride.

In fact, South Cave’s brighter start was rewarded when they opened the scoring in the early stages, leaving the visitors wondering if it would be the day they won the league.

To their credit, Scarborough adjusted quickly after the goal, showing better composure in possession and started to create chances.

Toby Jones levelled things up and Scarborough were ahead before half time when Harvey Bayes slotted home.

A tight second half saw chances at both ends, but Scarborough saw the game out to take three points and the title in their first season together as a team.

Delighted manager Nick Sumpton said: “The lads have been superb all season, they’ve thoroughly deserved to win the league.

“They’ve taken on what we’ve been working on in training and we’ve seen that materialising on the pitch, which has been fantastic.

“Hopefully we can go on and win the cup final and complete a double.

“A special mention also to my assistant manager, Steve Boynton for helping me along and all the parents, who get the kids to and from training and games.”

Scarborough Under-15s met North Ferriby United Greens for the first time this season at the Flamingo Land Stadium on Sunday.

In an even first half it was Ferriby who took the lead with a scrappy goal midway through the half.

Scarborough went into half-time 1-0 down but were very much in this game.

In the second half Scarborough dominated the rest of the game and they got their deserved equaliser through Harrie Leighton.

The midfielder calmly stroked home after an excellent run through the heart of the Ferriby defence.

Boro pushed on for the win with Aidan Crawford and Marcus O’Flanagan going close.

In the final minute, Ferriby got a corner and their defender rose well and powerfully headed home to snatch all three points for the away team.

Boro felt hard done by after feeling they deserved to take something from the game.

Jake Reeves earned man of the match for his direct and energetic wing play throughout the game.

Scarborough Athletic Under-14s AFC travelled away to face AFC Kingston Panthers on Sunday morning and came away with a 2-1 victory.

The game was started brightly by both sides, but an error by the Scarborough centre-back was capitalised on by the Panthers midfield and a long-range effort sailed into the top corner.

Boro pegged them back almost instantly as a lay-off from Tom Allan found its way to Nathan Williams, who curled the ball into the bottom right corner making the score 1-1 going into half-time.

Scarborough were constantly on the front foot and missed some half-chances, but they never created any big chances until the last two minutes of the game when a Tom Benson corner was scored by Ethan Smith with a diving bullet header into the bottom left corner.

The game finished 2-1 to Boro.

Scarborough Athletic Under-17s were beaten 8-2 by Beverley Town, Tristan Mustoe and Reo Smith with the goals for Boro.

Scarborough Athletic Under-13s shared the points from a 12-goal thriller after they drew 6-6 with Hessle Rangers.
