Newby School’s Year Six girl’s football team are celebrating success this wee, after running out as winners of the Scarborough & District Super League.
The girls side put in a resilient to win the final 4-3 to be crowned champions.
The side had selection problems too, with two players having to choose between football and rugby, thanks to a fixture clash.
Both players though turned out for the side to help ensure silverware for their school.
Donna Buttery, who manages the team, said: “We’re all very proud of the girls. They put in a real team performance. They’re a credit to the school and themselves.
“Some of the girls had never played football before, but they all pulled together and did a really good job.
“It’s the last chance that they’ll all be able to play together as they all go to secondary school in September.”
