Supermarket plans to go on display today

REVISED plans for two large supermarket developments in Scarborough go on display today.

Tesco has submitted a planning application for a new supermarket in Dean Road, while Sainsbury’s wants to extend its existing store in Falsgrave Road.

Residents will be able to view the plans in the Civic Corridor at Scarborough Town Hall for a fortnight and will have 21 days in which to submit any comments.

The plans are also be available online at

The planning applications will be considered together at the same meeting, likely to be next month, because of the potential ‘cumulative impact’ on Scarborough.

Scarborough Council head of regeneration and planning, Pauline Elliott, said: “If people come into the Town Hall during office hours, ‘comments sheets’ will be available for people to fill in and if they want to speak to a planner face-to-face to ask any technical questions they will be able to do so.

“For people who work during the day, there will also be an early evening session from 5pm-7pm on September 20.”
