Surf’s up as thousands set to attend festival

The UK’s best professional surfers will descend on Scarborough’s North Bay to compete for a national title in the UK professional surf tour.

On October 3 and 4, Scarborough will welcome more than 100 of the best suffers as they fight for the UK Professional Surfing Title.

Last year more than 10,000 people attended the event and this year it continues to be one of North Yorkshire’s largest free to attend Surfing Festivals.

Scarborough’s surfers will be joining the professionals to compete in the surfing competition to win the Scarborough Championship title.

Local bands will be performing live on the promenade at North Bay and Scarborough’s VW club will be showing the best of classic and vintage VWs split screen air cooled V Dubz on both days.

Beach and water-based activities throughout the weekend for everyone to join in with include beach volley ball, a children’s assault course and laser run, beach netball and donkey rides.

There will be outdoor lifestyle, leisure accessories - including clothes, jewellery and handbags - and food and refreshments will be on sale.

The event will also host some of the UK’s top professional mountain bikers performing in a series of freestyle shows.

“Scarborough is now becoming one of the UK’s top destinations for surfing and with over 100 of the UK’s best surfers set to descend on the town as well as BMX riders for the festival it should be a superb weekend”

Coventry University Scarborough Campus and Scarborough Council are supporting the festival which looks set to attract thousands of visitors again this year.

“Our professional surfers are looking forward to showcasing their talents to the local community.”
