THE UK Professional Surf Tour is coming to Scarborough for the first time ever this October, it has been revealed.

More than 100 of the UK’s best surfers will descend on the North Bay for the action-packed weekend on October 1 and 2 to compete for the UK Professional Surfing title in a major coup for the town.

It is hoped the event, more details of which will be revealed at its official launch next week, will showcase North Bay beach as one of the best surfing locations in the UK.

As well as great surfing, it also promises to feature skateboarding, BMX and all sorts of extreme sports. There will also be live music and DJs, among other attractions.

The UK Pro Surf Tour was formed in 1998 by UK Surf Promotions Ltd in a bid to raise the profile of British Surfing across the UK and provide a uniform event format that is visually exciting.

It also had the aims of highlighting the quality of surf conditions and locations across the country, providing a platform for surfers and sponsors to raise their profile in the surfing industry and increasing media coverage for surfing.

In addition, it hoped to financially reward surfers for their performance and raise the performance level of British surfers.

The UK Pro Surf Tour competition, which will feature some of the best surfers in the UK, had originally been due to come to Scarborough as part of 360 Extreme Sports Festival last year, but the event was cancelled.

Scarborough has also been chosen as one of the departure points for a huge new classic car rally next month.

The event – Destination Manchester – will take place on Saturday August 13. It will see a total of 1,000 classic cars streaming into Manchester from four-start points – Scarborough, Carlisle, Birmingham, and Nottinghamshire – for a showcase at Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium.
