Two brave Scarborough gym members are planning to “jump to it” for charity.

Laura Daniel and Diane Clark, who go to Compass Gym, are taking on a bungee jump in aid of Scarborough Hospital’s Snowdrop Appeal for a maternity bereavement suite.

This cause has been chosen as it is close to the heart of fitness instructor Kerry Hesp and hairdresser Hayley Norton, who both work at the gym.

Hayley says it will be invaluable to have a new unit at the hospital and that it’s something she wishes was available when she lost her child.

She explained that because there was no separate unit for bereaved parents, she had to use that main maternity ward with other mums and their babies.

Compass Gym has already raised around £1,000 from a quiz night arranged by Kerry. Gym manager Laura Bluck also ran the Scarborough 10K in aid of the Snowdrop Appeal.

Laura and Diane’s bungee jump will take place in Manchester on January 18. They will be strapped to each other and jump off a crane 160ft above the ground over a canal.

Anyone wishing to sponsor them can do so at Compass Gym, Wilkinsons (Diane’s workplace) or the Post Office in Aberdeen Walk (Laura’s workplace). Or you can go to www.justgiving.com/LauraDiane

The Snowdrop Appeal has a target of £120,000.
