Teenager dies in Ryedale crash


North Yorkshire Police is investigating the death of a woman in a single-vehicle crash on the outskirts of Kirby Misperton in Ryedale.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service alerted officers at 3.22pm on Thursday after the blue Mercedes C220 saloon car overturned and collided with a tree and metal gate post as it headed west on the unclassified Kirby Misperton Road.

The 19-year-old woman, who was a rear seat passenger in the Mercedes, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

She is from Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees. Her family have been informed about the death and are receiving support from the police while the investigation continues.

The driver of the car, a 27-year-old man from Thornaby, suffered minor facial injuries which required treatment at York District Hospital. Officers arrested him in connection with the collision. He remains in police custody for questioning.

A 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, also from Thornaby, were also passengers in the car and required treatment for minor injuries. They have also been arrested in connection with the collision and are being held in custody for questioning.

Witnesses to the collision or anyone who recalls seeing the blue Mercedes C220 saloon car prior to the incident, are urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team.
