The Scarborough branch of the Royal British Legion has collected the magnificent sum of £65,226.12 through a variety of fundraising activities and the street and static point collection held during remembrance time.
This sum has been raised by a dedicated group of individuals together with the assistance of many other organisations, both charitable and private. However, the people of Scarborough continue to be most generous in their support of this worthwhile cause.
The Poppy Appeal is the major single source of revenue for the Royal British Legion’s Benevolent Fund. Each year more people come to the legion for help and the cost of that help is continually increasing. Too often we read in the press and see on the television the true cost paid by the young service men and women as they go about their duties in Afghanistan. It is only with your continued support that the aims of the Royal British Legion can be fully realised in terms of welfare support to the serving and ex-service community.
The Poppy Appeal is an annual appeal which runs from October 1 to September 30 with the main collection period being at remembrance tide. This year collectors will be on the streets from October 27 to November 10, which together with the static points provides the public face of the Poppy Appeal.
There is a continuing need for volunteers to assist with the many aspects of the organisation of the Poppy Appeal at local level. Should anyone feel they can assist in any way whatsoever I can be contacted on 351957.
Finally, thank you for your contributions, it is greatly appreciated.
