People in Scarborough and the surrounding area are being encouraged to vote for the Borough's parks and help the nation show how much it loves its parks.
In July Falsgrave Park and Peasholm Park in Scarborough, Pannett Park in Whitby and Glen and Crescent Gardens in Filey were each given a prestigious Green Flag Award.
The Keep Britain Tidy award scheme is now asking the nation to have its say and decide which parks and green spaces should receive the People’s Choice Award for being the UK’s favourites.
Whether people enjoy visiting a park or green space to play football, walk the dog, exercise or simply get away from the hustle and bustle, if they think their favourite deserves to be in the top 10 People’s Choice then they should cast their vote.
To vote, people should go online to greenflagaward.org and find their park on the winners map and click the voting button. Once they’ve registered their vote, they can encourage others to get involved too through social media using the hashtag #PeoplesChoice.
Cllr Martin Smith, Scarborough Borough Council Cabinet Member for Leisure said:
“Each of our borough’s parks has its own special appeal and collectively they provide residents and visitors with some of the most wonderful open green spaces in the UK to enjoy all year round.
"Please get voting for your favourite and help us put our borough on the People’s Choice Award map.”
Voting opened on 1 September and closes on 30 September, with the top 10 sites being announced on 16 October.
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Manager said:
“This year 1,883 parks and green spaces met the tough standards demanded by our Green Flag Award judges but we want to know which parks the UK public love the most.
“The People’s Choice award is a chance to show how much your favourite park means to you. If it’s worth shouting about, make your voice heard and vote now.”
