THE future of the Town Hall and the Futurist will be up for discussion at a meeting of Scarborough’s Urban Space Group on Thursday.

The group will meet in the Cavalier Suite of the Royal Hotel from 7.15pm.

The only item on the agenda will be a final opportunity to discuss the Development Brief regarding the proposed redevelopment of the Town Hall and Futurist area of the town.

Among the plans discussed in the brief include to transform the South Bay under a radical vision to link it with the town centre, as well as the possibility of turning the Town Hall into a hotel.

Urban Space Group chairman Nick Hart was keen to stress the meeting is simply about the Development Brief rather than the financial and political issues of the council’s proposed move to the former Skipton Building Society headquarters in Eastfield.

Plans to sell off the Town Hall were revealed in March in a £3 million deal proposed by the Homes and Communities Agency.

The agency, which replaced Yorkshire Forward and aims to promote economic regeneration, would receive an equity share in the planned redevelopment of the Futurist and Town Hall as part of the agreement.
