Scarborough has earned praise for playing its part in making Yorkshire look bloomin’ marvellous!
The town won the Coastal Towns category in the annual Yorkshire in Bloom awards during a ceremony at York Racecourse which also saw surrounding villages, businesses and individuals honoured.
The judging panel also handed out several rare Discretionary Yorkshire Rose Awards on Tuesday.
Scarborough in Bloom was presented with a Community Award to complement its Silver Gilt to make it a hattrick of prizes for the town.
Janet Jefferson, chairman of Scarborough in Bloom, said: “I am very pleased with the award, it’s a commendation to the many community groups we have in the Scarborough area. We did very well and now just have to keep up the good work.”
Cayton also impressed judges earning Gold for the village, a Community Champion Award for Les Hutchinson and a Conservation Award for Cayton Village Caravan Park.
Gemma Thompson, who helps manage the family-run caravan park, said: “We are delighted. We always try to improve different areas of the park. We have put in owl boxes, bird boxes and recently got in touch with Scarborough Naturalist Society to see how we can improve the area.”
