Car hits lights at pedestrian crossing

POLICE and a fire crew were called to Burniston Road after a car collided with a light on a pedestrian crossing.

The alarm was raised at just before 10.40am on Saturday following the incident opposite the Tesco Express store.

Sgt Richard Mallinson, of Scarborough Police, said that only one vehicle was involved in the incident.

He added: “The single vehicle has been coming down Cross Lane and at the junction with Burniston Road it has driven straight into the pedestrian crossing.

“There was extensive damage to the lights and the car.

“The driver is helping us with inquiries.”

Firefighters were not needed at the incident and returned to Scarborough Fire Station.
