Malton firefighters were today called to the Lakeside Holiday Park at Castle Howard after a nine-year-old child fell from its pedal cycle.

The alarm was raised at 11.07am and when they arrived at the scene they realised that a brake lever had gone through the child’s knee.

A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said that they cut the gear lever from the cycle and it was left in place for further medical treatment.

They used cutting gear to remove it and the child was taken to hospital by ambulance.
