A retired former headmistress of Wheatcroft County Primary School, Scarborough, has died aged 87.
Kathleen Gill, who was known to many as Kay, of Hutton Buscel died in Scarborough Hospital on Saturday.
Mrs Gill, the widow of Brian Gill, sister of Gordon Nilsen, mother of Louise, Bill and Anni and grandmother of Abigail, Angus, Hamish, Sophie, Charlie and Emily, was originally from Oslo, Norway.
She grew up in Sheffield and under her maiden name of Kathleen Nilsen taught at Cayton School before becoming the headmistress of Wheatcroft County Primary School.
Mrs Gill enjoyed a long a happy retirement living in both Ruston and Hutton Buscel where she was an active member of St Helen’s and All Saints Church, Wykeham and was very involved with the Christian Women’s Association and the Women’s Institute.
During her retirement she enjoyed patchwork quilting and she was a founder member of Heirloom Quilters, Scarborough.
She also enjoyed needlework, gardening and painting.
Her daughter Louise Thomas, 53, said: “She was a lovely lady, a wonderful mother and devoted grandmother and she was everybody’s friend.
“My brother, Bill, my sister, Anni and I were blessed to have her and we will miss her greatly.”
Mrs Gill’s funeral will be held on Tuesday January 28 at All Saints, Wykeham at 12.30pm and will be followed by a private cremation.
